Bra Size Converter

Pick the size on the label and the country it is written in. You get the same bra in all seven sizing systems.

US / Canada 34C is

  • US / Canada34C
  • UK34C
  • EU75C
  • Australia / NZ12C
  • France90C
  • Italy3C
  • JapanC75

A dash means that system has no label for the size - Australian and Italian band numbers stop short of the others, and American cup letters run out before British ones do.

How band sizes convert

There are only two ways of counting a band, and every system is one of them written a little differently.

  • US and UK use inches. The band number is your ribcage, so the two are identical: a 34 is a 34.
  • EU uses centimetres, rounded to the nearest five. A 34 band is a 75.
  • France is the EU number plus 15. That same band is a 90.
  • Italy counts the EU steps as 1, 2, 3. It is a 3.
  • Australia and New Zealand use a dress size: the inch band minus 22. It is a 12.
  • Japan uses the EU band but writes the cup first: C75 rather than 75C.

So one bra, a US 34C, carries six different labels: UK 34C, EU 75C, France 90C, Italy 3C, Australia 12C and Japan C75.

Where the cup letters stop agreeing

Up to a D cup every system uses the same letters, and converting is only a matter of the band. Above D they split three ways, and this is where nearly all conversion mistakes are made.

  • The US stacks Ds - D, DD, DDD - and then jumps to G.
  • The UK and Australia put a double letter after each single: D, DD, E, F, FF, G, GG.
  • EU, France, Italy and Japan simply carry on through the alphabet: D, E, F, G.

The trap is that the same letter means different sizes. An E is the cup after D in Europe, but two cups after D in the UK. A G is three cups past D in Europe and in the US, and five past it in the UK.

The conversions people get wrong

Three on a 34 band, each one cup apart:

USUKEUFranceAustralia
34DD34DD75E90E12DD
34DDD34E75F90F12E
34G34F75G90G12F

A US 34DDD is a UK 34E, not a UK DDD - there is no such UK size. And a US 34G is a UK 34F: order a "G" from a British brand expecting your American G and it arrives two cups too big.

Band sizes

US and UK bands are the same number of inches. Everything else is metric: the EU band is the ribcage measurement in centimetres rounded to the nearest 5, France adds 15 to the EU number, Italy counts those same 5cm steps as 1, 2, 3, and Australia subtracts 22 from the inch band.

Cup letters

Every system agrees up to D. Above it they split three ways, and this is where almost all conversion errors happen: the UK inserts single letters between its doubles, the US stacks Ds and then jumps to G, and the continental systems just carry on through the alphabet. A UK E is a US DDD, not a US E. Past a 15-inch difference American labelling simply stops, which is why the US column runs out before the others do.

Questions people actually ask

Is a UK bra size the same as a US size?
The band is - both count inches, so a 34 is a 34. The cups agree up to D and then split. A US 34DDD is a UK 34E, and a US 34G is a UK 34F. Above a D cup, always check which country a size is written in.
What is a 34C in European sizes?
An EU 75C. The EU band is the ribcage in centimetres rounded to the nearest five, and the cup letter is the same up to D. In France the same bra is labelled 90C and in Italy 3C.
Why are French and Italian sizes different from EU sizes?
They use the same cups and the same underlying band, written differently. French bands are the EU number plus 15. Italian bands count the same steps as 1, 2, 3 and so on. A size chart that lists one "European" column is usually the EU one, and will be wrong for a French or Italian label.
Is DD the same as E?
It depends on the country. In EU, French, Italian and Japanese sizing the cup after D is E, so a US 34DD is an EU 75E. In UK sizing DD and E are two different cups - the E is one bigger. There is more on this in the DD cup guide.
How do Australian bra sizes work?
The cups follow the UK ladder and the band is a dress size: take the inch band and subtract 22. A 34 band is a 12, so a US 34C is an Australian 12C. New Zealand uses the same system.
Do I need to convert sister sizes too?
Convert first, then find the sister size in that country's system. The rule is one band for one cup letter everywhere, but a band step is written differently: 2 in US, UK and Australian sizes, 5 in EU, French and Japanese, and 1 in Italian.
